Penn Oaks Quilters strive to share our skills for the betterment of others.

Our activities include:

Patches of Love  - (2010-2011)

Back for another year, Penn Oaks Quilters will be supporting the Quilts for Kids program based out of Yardley, PA.  This is very popular with kits being provided by the Quilts for Kids organization.  The goal for this year is 30 quilts to donate!  The guild supplies the labor, batting and LOVE.   http://www.quiltsforkids.org

Patches of Love - (2009-2010)

Again, Penn Oaks Quilters is again supporting the Quilts for Kids program and made 24 quilts from provided kits or member's stash!

Patches of Love - (2008-2009)

We continue to support Quilts for Kids, Inc by completing supplied pre-cut children's quilts.  Penn Oaks supported Quilts for Kids challenge from Clothworks by making/donating quilts in the Fall 2008 timeframe.

Patches of Love - (2007-2008)

This year we will be making children’s quilts by working in conjunction with the organization Quilts for Kids, Inc. This group is located in Yardley, PA and their mission is to transform unwanted and discontinued fabric into quilts that comfort children in need.

Patches of Love - (2006-2007)

Quilts were made by guild members for wheelchair bound veterans and personally delivered to Coatesville Veteran's Hospital, Coatesville, PA. in May 2007.

Working with the Girl Scouts

Penn Oak Quilters has a relationship with the Douglasville, PA Girls Scout Troop.  The girls in this troop "white glove" at the Penn Oaks Quilt Shows earning service time for their badges and learning all about quilting.

Several of Penn Oak's members also work with the girls and teach them the art of quilting and how to sew.  Show below is a picture of a quilt put together by the girls of the Douglassville troop for a wounded female soldier through the "Quilts of Valor" program.

Congratulations, girls, from Penn Oaks Quilters  on a job well done!

Opportunity Quilt for Annual Charity

Each year the guild makes a quilt for which donations are taken and a donation recipient is drawn at our June meeting.  Part of each quilt's proceeds are charitable donations supporting:

  • Breast Cancer Research
  • ALS and others

The winner of the 2009-2010 Opportunity Quilt purchased her ticket at "For the Love of Quilting 5". The winner said she went to our quilt show, on a whim, with her mom and sister.   They thought it was the best quilt show ever!  Her mom bought 6 tickets for Fair and her sister to share. Fair won a basket in our basket raffle at the show; then she won a gift certificate from Elaine's Flowers from the show.  She said there is an old saying that when you win two, you will get a third.  So she was thrilled that she won the quilt.  She was a triple winner - all from our show.  She marked the weekend for our 2011 show and is eager to attend.  She is a very nice lady, considers herself a beginning quilter and prefers traditional quilts to contemporary ones

 Quilts of Valor

Many guild members donate their time and materials to make quilts for our wounded soldiers.  We also hold bees where we come together to create quilt tops.  Guild members with long arm quilting machines donate their time to then quilt the tops.

Please visit  http://www.qovf.org/ to  find out more about the organization.
